Collective Efforts Interview
by eccentric1 on Jan.22, 2010, under Eccentric
I just interviewed Atlanta Underground Hip- Hop artists Collective Efforts. These cats were very humble with sharp insights on today’s commercial MCs. They are a very versatile group that really can’t be placed in a box or specific genre. They have played hip-hop and electronica crowds alike. In fact, they are on Sound Tribe Sector Nine’s label. They have also worked with the legendary producer Diamond D on their new single “I Get Down”. We had alot of fun on this interview…..Check it Out!
I gotta give a shout out to Senor Kaos for setting me up with this interview with Collective Efforts….thanks homie!!!
You can check Collective Efforts out at http://www.cecrew.com/ Tell ‘em Eccentric 1 sent ya!!!!

Tokyo Cigar – J Dilla Tribute
by eccentric1 on Jan.19, 2010, under Eccentric
I was flowing through some other blogs talking about Dilla and ran across this producer named Tokyo Cigar
on http://kevinnottingham.com. He had this J Dilla Tribute joint I thought was cool. For those who don’t
know him here’s a brief bio as described by him:
“I’m in Maryland right now. I lived in Ireland, Virginia and some other spots. I am a member of a group
called THE PLEXIGLASS FOUNTAIN with my boy Cyclops ( we got the number 1 free album of 2009 on Kevin
Nottingham too for our album “Left of the Scenery” which I completely produced). I produce and rhyme as
well. I used to rock out in Tru skool in DC and I rhymed on 88.1 WMUC at university of Maryland. I got a
producer spotlight on Kevin Nottingham ( I was also on the top producers of 2009 list on KN ) and the
WYDU blog.”

I think I just heard the dopest track all year!!!! No exaggeration y’all!!!!!! It was so dope that I couldn’t even listen to it all the way the through the second time! I was in my crib sweating and holding my head (remember it is December). This kid just keeps taking me higher and higher. I know I have hyped it, but check it for yourself. You be the judge!!!!

Röyksopp – You Don’t Have a Clue…(How Many Times You Will Play This)
by eccentric1 on Oct.17, 2009, under Eccentric
Röyksopp does it again on the CD entitled Junior! I first discovered this track on a flight on the way to
Anchorage, Alaska about a month or 2 ago. I kept it on repeat for hours and hours. It has such a hypnotic
appeal. Anneli Drecker, the vocalist from the group Bel Canto, leads this Röyksopp tune. Her voice is so
amazing! It glides on this track perfectly!!!!!

Beady Belle Sees “Ghosts”
by eccentric1 on Sep.18, 2009, under Eccentric
Beady Belle, reigning from Oslo, Norway,is Beate S. Lech and Marius Reksj. They met at the University of
Oslo as music students. The joint I am posting called “Ghosts” was on the album called Home. It was entitled
Home because it was created in their home. This was realeased all over Europe, Japan, Korea and Canada in
2001. This gem was not even released in the states. This is just another example of great overlooked music.
Ghosts provides a soundscaped feel that puts me in a sweet spot, where I am relaxed, but grooved out. It has been 8 years and stills rings true, but I would like for you to be the judge of that!!!!

Roots in the Quicksand Millennium
by eccentric1 on Sep.07, 2009, under Eccentric
Oh my god, I almost forgot about this gem! My man Lew was on Pandora and this one showed up. For those that don’t know the Roots, they are the house band for the Jimmy Fallon Show. The Roots are one of my favorite hip hop groups of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They once were one of THE leaders of the underground hip-hop movement. The track below definitely displays that fact! The Roots are one of Philly’s finest musical
Talents! I’ve been following them since about ‘94. They had to pretty much abandon their underground
presence and true experimental/organic origins because that sh#* don’t pay. Such a shame that is!!!!!!!! For
a while they were on a heavy touring circuit in Europe and Asia, because real music is very much accepted
and appreciated in those places. Anyhow, prepare your ears for the dopeness of the ROOTS!!!!!
Quicksand Millennium is track 5, however check the other joints out on this compilation as well. Give me your feedback.
Badly Drawn Boy Has Been Once Around The Block
by eccentric1 on Aug.31, 2009, under Eccentric
Another great catchy UK tune. I must admit, this one got past me 2 years ago. However, better late than never. This tune, Once Around The Block by Badly Drawn Boy is complex, but not. Its primarily a series of acoustic guitars layered on top of one another with an acoustic bass with drums. I was exposed to it via the video on youtube. It is pretty interesting! Its a dedication to a Mexican couple who get their braces intertwined from a kiss and cause a 10 mile traffic jam. Enjoy.

Mr. Ryan Leslie: R Les
by eccentric1 on Jun.28, 2009, under Eccentric
The Ryan Leslie CD has such a unique and eccentric feel eventhough, it has mainstream qualities. Ryan Leslie is an amazing guy! Not only did he produce all of the songs on the Ryan Leslie album, he also wrote, and performed every track very little help from anyone else. This is musical genius!!!! He also is an academic genius. This cat scored a perfect score on his SATs, a 1600 and graduated from Harvard at age 19!
Durell (a good friend) says “Valentine says for me in music what I’m thinking.” As far as the rest of the CD he also stated that “the cd is so hot from beginning to end that I don’t have to wait for my favorite song, because all of them are my favorites”
Some of these tracks you might recognize. I don’t usually post tracks that are on the radio that often but, these are so hot I couldn’t resist. I had to post the ENTIRE CD.
What do you think?
Yancey Boys are All Good
by eccentric1 on Jun.03, 2009, under Eccentric
Mmmm….Mmmm….Mmmm is what I have to say about Jay Dilla’s little brother Illa Jay (John Yancey). He continues with the lyrical hotness!!!! It’s a little eerie how his voice sounds so much like his! The beats on the Yancey Boys CD were produced by Jay Dilla over 10 years ago just for Illa J. It was like Dilla knew his fate way before any sign was apparent. It seems like he takes portions from an Isaac Hayes joint and chops it so that it takes on an identity of its own. He disguises it so well, that’s why he was such a genius!!! Needless to say, I’m feeelin this one!!! The CD is called Yancey Boys. Peep at this joint called “All Good” and let me know how y’all vibing to this one!!!!

What’s crazy is that I am not certain who hipped me to this cat. I can assure that whoever did it…they got all my respect on this one.
This guy has been putting out tunes for 12 years now!!! Isn’t that amazing how great music gets so unnoticed here in the States!!!He is on the Lemongrassmusic label…check ‘em out.

by eccentric1 on May.07, 2009, under Eccentric
Does anybody remember “Runnin” by the Pharcyde produced by Jay Dilla…well if you do here is a remake of that one with some live instrumentation to boot by one of my favorite UKartists…The Visioneers. The Visioneers is a spinoff of 4Hero. Super Fantastic!!!!! What do you think????

Flying With Dwele
by eccentric1 on Apr.22, 2009, under Eccentric
Dwele, what can I say about this cat…DOPE music, voice, lyrics. Well let me explain what inspired this post. It was on 04.06.09 around 10:00 a.m. when I saw him in Detroit’s (DTW) airport that reminded me to look if he was on my mp3 player… and he was. I sort of forgot how dope that “Sketches of a Man” cd was!!!! It has me baffled, because there are SO MANY HOTTT TRACKS on this one, its CRAZY!!! As I am writing this, I am stuck on “Free As a Bird” it feels like Dilla influenced this one heavily, which makes it automatically ill. I ‘m a supa dupa Dilla fanatic!!!!!
“Free As a Bird”
Please don’t let get out of here without blessing y’all with the ultra 5 Dolla Mic….WOW!!!

Come into The Garden
by eccentric1 on Apr.19, 2009, under Eccentric
Zero 7 is a British duo compromised of Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker. They are a couple of really talented producers who started out engineering music for the Pet Shop Boys, Young Disciples and Robert Plant in the 1990s
To date they have made 6 cds (if anyone knows of more, please let me know)..EP1 (out of print I believe), EP2 (out of print as well I believe), Simple Things, Another Late Night, When It Falls and The Garden. However these 2 jawns I’m posting are from the cd called The Garden first up is “Seeing Things”. I’m really feeling the syncopation of it all! It has these little boy drummer snares that pair up with this acoustic guitar near the songs end that’s lovely as well.
“Seeing Things”
Secondly, is a monster track called “Today” let me start off by saying WHOA!!! It comes in with this Samba feel and José González (a Swedish vocalist) laying down the smooth vocals. It also has some remnants of the Pharcyde inside. Pure inspiration !!!! This is wild for me to say this because at the time of this posting I am not producing yet, but if I was, I would have to spark one!!!!!!!!
P.S. The harmonization is insane!!!
“Today”
Your opinions on both please
Post Up with 2000 Black
by eccentric1 on Apr.17, 2009, under Eccentric
For all of my progressive house heads check this!!! First off it’s a spin off ogroup of the SUPER BRIT group 4Hero, called 2000 Black. 2000 Black is comprised of 4 Hero’s Dego and Kaidi. The cd is called 2000 Black — A Next Set A Rockers .This is kind of joint you just can’t get past…meaning it stays on repeat in your ride for weeks!!!!! The kind of track where you can’t tell anybody what the rest of the CD sounds like, because you are stuck on that one. Enough rambling, I am ready to dive in…you????

Christine Horn aka Chocolate Superstar
by eccentric1 on Apr.14, 2009, under Eccentric
Has anyone heard of Christine Horn aka Chocolate Superstar? If not, WOW! Ima hit you with a couple of gems. The first is “Cup of Joe”. This one is so smooth…her voice is oh so silky and sooothing!!!! This chocolate superstar can be found at www.chocolatesuperstar.com It puts me in the mood for a little bit more than a cup of joe!!! What are your thoughts?
Cup of Joe
The second one “Therapy”, a folk-soul kinda sounding jawn, is therapy for my soul. She says “you’ll be the envy because my kisses are therapy ” If you know me this is a pretty big deal for me to quote lyrics from a song, because I am an admitted beat junkie! Wildly enough, even with its folk elements, this one leaves me bobbing my head. What do you think?

Talking about chill bumps in hot weather. I know I just spoke about Common not too long ago, but what can I say. I’ve been with Common since he was Common Sense. Anyway, this is another classic that gives Common and Bilal a chance to emblish on the track. I had to post this one because I don’t think many have heard this one…its pretty deep off in the Finding Forever disc. I wanna hear your thoughts…especially from those of you who have never heard this jawn.

Orbit Around Brazil
by eccentric1 on Apr.02, 2009, under Eccentric
Fly Lo, as one of my homies calls him, has exemplified what eccentricsounds is all about with this jawn called “Orbit Brazil”. It starts as if you have just landed from an alien nation, but are ready to take off again!
In short, its an unclassifiable piece that leaves me speechless at times, because its so incredible. I heard Flying Lotus described as experimental and loosely tied to hip-hop. Its very hard to put a box around this cat, because he is so out the box. You see, this is jawn is what I feel is a soundscape (not just a beat), because it takes you on a journey through a time and space continuum. I cannot wait to hear you guys’ feed back on this one

Flying Lotus…The Soundsphere Generator
by eccentric1 on Mar.28, 2009, under Eccentric
I use the term soundsphere generator (made up or not) to describe Flying Lotus because, just to call him a beat producer DOESN’T CUT IT AT ALL!!!!
The radio knows they need to be ashamed of themselves for letting a double banger like “Rickshaw” slide with NO AIRPLAY…such a calamity!!! No fear, eccentricsounds.com will save the day!!! What can I say…this one (Rickshaw) unapologetically comes out the gate gobstomping your hip-hop senses!!! You gotta excuse me , I am Flying Lotus nut!!! I am on the plane in 1st class and he got me mean-mugging (not in an upset way, but in a you’re-not-stopping-my-groove-armada-way-eventhough-I’m-in-1st-class) and head bobbing.
He’s an amazing cat…he’s only about 25 or 26, but his musical abilty is 125 or 126. He kinda cheated a lil bit in a good way. His great aunt was John Coltrane’s wife…Alice Coltrane. His beats are ultra ridiculous, but don’t take my word for check him out:

Are You Gonna Waltz for The Koop?
by eccentric1 on Mar.21, 2009, under Eccentric
Koop, a Swedish group, unknown to some, but are a talented male duo (Oscar Simonsson and Magnus Zingmark). They invite guest artists to sing or provide vocals over their tracks, much like Zero 7. Upon hearing their music for the first time and many times afterwards, you would think that they’re playing live instruments. They actually sample all of their sounds very meticulous. They’re kinda weird, because they do all of their shows in dresses. However, this 1st joint sounds like a jazzy Price is Right theme song. This CD came out in 2001!!!!
Summer Sun:
This second jawn is on the traditional jazz tip. IT IS SUPER DUPER!!!! Classic material, It gave me chill bumps in the summertime:

I had to throw this one up on the boards for all of my Tribe Called Quest heads!!!! This is the original joint that was sampled for… can you guess which track? I’ll give you one hint. It came off the CD called The Two Headed Freap. Ringing any bells…ok, ok. The Tribe song it was used in was called “Electric Relaxation” Ah…don’t that feel better to know where that came from. I know all my crate digging cats already knew. It’s still post-worthy, because it so hot!!!!

INCANTO BY CLIMATIC: AN ALBUM REVIEW
by eccentric1 on Mar.16, 2009, under Eccentric
Climatic, a musician, producer and video-artist out of Cologne, Germany on the 4mpo label sends me on a natural high!
The first track off of the Incanto CD “Left”is one that has feels ambient, mixed with contemporary jazz, but in a very good way.
The 2nd track “Oblivion” has a Samba type feel that is enchanting, With such a warm feel. The title is appropriately named as it takes me into a oblivion world of floating freedom. I gotta say big ups to my homie Durell for turning me on these cats!!!!! I wonder if I’m the only feeling this way about “Oblivion”
Oblivion:
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
The 3rd track “Che Cos’E” is a slick one with a sexy Spanish lady whispering some exotic utterances and then blesses the track with her sultry incantations.
Track 4 “Sideways” reminds me of a track that you might find on Sweetback’s 1st album if you were speed it up some.
Track 5 “Everything” is more of a deep house feel than the previous tracks. It works to expand the scope of the CD.
And then there’s numnber 6 “Yamo Ma”, that has very similar feel to “Oblivion”, but its a little more uptempo. Stil hot to death!!! Check it, tell me how you feeling this one:
P.S.. Dude killing that sax huh?
Yamo Ma:
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Track 7 “Juanita” has these underlying keyboards that provide a soundscape of a night highway ride through my favorite metropolis.
Track 8 “Too High” provides a dance energy to get you up and out yo’ seat.
Track 9 “Twister” continues the dance energy. Eventhough it really isn’t a broken beat track, I get a broken-beat feel. I guess they way in which the keyboards are being striked gives that to me.
Track 10 “Hazy Days” has a rather unique beat structure to me and the vocalist plays it on the slower tempo portion, which is interesting as it could be taken on the slower or the faster tempo. This is what makes this an ultra-track!!!
Track 11 “Gibraltar” exudes ambient mid-tempo with a couple of different sounds thrown in, but in a way that comes out sounding melodic. I don’t know how he does it though.
Track 12 – Climatic even has a hot drum-n-bass track called “Abstract Truth”…this jawn is sick!!!
Abstract Truth:
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Track 13 “You Rescued Me” has a cool downbeat bassline. Dude’s vocals convey a melancholy feel, I guess that was his aim, as if he wanted to be rescued.
Track 14 “Last Exit” is a good outro track with a classic downbeat feel.
I’m loving this CD!
P.P.S…The album cover is enchanting

Ms. Miss. Jack Davey
by eccentric1 on Mar.15, 2009, under Eccentric
I really didn’t know how many of my friends didn’t know who J*DaVey was until I sent a mass text out to see who was coming to the concert last night at Sugar Hill. Yet, another shameful radio/media situation!!!! I kinda explain them as like Slum Village meets Prince…a super dope duo (Jack Davey and Brook D’Leau) explosion of talent reigning from L.A.. Anyway, I wanna give a phat shout out to Geoff for turning me on them 2 or 3 years back and also to Slade who knows the time on them as well.
After the concert was over, I spoke to Ms. Jack Davey who is a very down to earth and very cool human being!!!!!! I didn’t have any business cards, but she still graciously accepted my blog site info from me on a napkin. She told me the name of the track they opened their set with. It is a new, new track, that isn’t even out yet, called “Listen”. IT IS DEFINITELY A WOW TRACK!!!! Truth be told, I almost lost my composure when I heard that joint!!! They gave you a myriad of sounds last night as they are a very diverse group of individuals. They laid it DOWN!!!!.
They performed one of my favorite songs called “No More”. She tore it up!!!!! Her voice is amazing. She sounded better in person than on CD, I mean for real!!!! I know this is how its supposed to go, but to me only a few can achieve this. I mean she can flat out blow !!!!!! I know I just said that, but I want y’all to know that Jack Davey’s voice is so pure!!!!

40 Dayz with Billy Brooks
by eccentric1 on Mar.13, 2009, under Eccentric
Keeping with the Tribe original sample vibe, check this one out. This original is too funky! When I first heard Tribe’s “Luck of Lucien” I thought to myself, this sounds like it could be the musical cousin to the theme song for the Barney Miller televison show. Sometimes I wish Ali Shaeed could have used the whole song. Just kidding, but its so, so funky. I just wanted to do my part to keep this type of old school vibe alive. These cats was on some ‘ish back then! I really felt that I had to post this one for those who love Tribe Called QUest as much as I do and scratched their head back in the day like, who is the person who made this original cut, well here you go: Please holla back to let me know how the original compares to Tribe’s “Luck of Lucien”

by eccentric1 on Mar.11, 2009, under Eccentric
I just remembered that it was this track right here entitled “That Shit” is where I was formally introduced to one of the best producers of ALL TIME (Jay Dee aka Jay Dilla). I did not realize until much later that I had heard many of his creations before, but was clueless. He was responsible for many Tribe, Common, Busta Rhymes, D’Angelo (as well as many others’) tracks. He was 1/3 of one of the best underground hip-hop trios out (Slum Village) So, aptly phrased in this track, he represented The ‘D’ to the FULLEST!!!!
The mere thought of this jawn gives me chill bumps in the summertime.…no joke!!!!!! Well, here it is…tell me how affects you.

This post comes from my big brother. He (and my sister) have played a huge role in my musicality. He wanted me to post this up about Mr. George Howard. This is what he had to say “Check out George Howard. This track is one of his first. George always played from the heart. His mood was shown in his music.”

Room 114
by eccentric1 on Mar.08, 2009, under Eccentric
114, spelled One-4-Teen, by Bahamadia….is arguably one of the most original beats ever constructed!!!! It really feels open ended like it has no true identifiable bassline. In fact it does have one, but there something about this track that makes it so unique to me. IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!
I really cannot identify what it is that is missing or not missing. Can someone out there in cyber-music land explain what this may or not be?
Also can anyone shed some light who Ron E. Still is? I know he produced this track but, I never heard of him beforehand or even after this track really. Anyhow, here is the jawn……SO SICK!!!!!
Holla back at me and give me your opinion:

Cal Tjader vs. Camp Lo
by eccentric1 on Mar.05, 2009, under Eccentric
One of the fonkiest vibraphonist out, back in the 60’s and 70’s was a cat named Cal Tjader. He also was tight on the drums, bongos, congas, timpani and piano. You would think he was a Latin cat, but he wasn’t. He was an Anglo-Saxon from San Mateo, California. He has performed with such Latin greats as Eddie Palmieri and Tito Puente. He is also recognized as one of the fathers of acid jazz! To me he is partly responsible for my love of hip-hop because he has influenced alot of my favorite hip-hop artists such as Tribe, Pete Rock, GangStarr, De La Soul, The Beatnuts and Camp Lo just to name a few.
Speaking of Camp Lo, does anybody rememeber Camp Lo – “Sparkle”, well just in case you don’t or God forbid you never heard it before, I posted it below. It’s like its ‘97 all over again. THIS IS THE HOTTTEST ISH!!!!! SUPER CLASSIC!!!!!!! At the time that I am writing this, it is 6:22 am and I’M OPEN!!!It feels like 3:22 pm. That’s how music does me…it makes me high!!! I could go on forever, but here it is:

Omar’s Here to Stay
by eccentric1 on Feb.27, 2009, under Eccentric
One of the commenters (Chocolate Superstar) asked if I could post some Omar tracks and I am gladly obliging. For those of you who are not familiar with this cat,he’s a British dude who is multi-talented. He has been dubbed the Father of Nu British Soul. He’s actually a classically trained individual. Its somewhat evident in some of his music. He is a guy who is not afraid to incorporate such instruments as an Oboe or French Horn or what have you. I CAN DIG IT!!!!!!
I’ve been on this cat since about ‘96. He is definitely one of favorite artists.
Chocolate Superstar also asked where is the best place to pick up some of his music. For me, since I am in Atlanta, I would more than likely go on down to Mood’s Music and holla at my man Darryl. He got the mad imports and obscurities.
Mind you this music is 12 YEARS OLD. Good music don’t age!!!

Do Yo Thang Jneiro Jarel
by eccentric1 on Feb.24, 2009, under Eccentric
I must admit that I am very late on this one. I discovered it just last Friday when I went out to this spot in
Atlanta called Cenci. They were playing some old school true hip-hop and they threw on this joint called “Do Yo Thang”. Man, I was bobbing my head like one of those bobble-head dolls! I had to post this one up.
Truth be told I knew about this cat years ago but, through another moniker…Dr. Who Dat. I have his “Beat
Journey” CD, which is off da hook as well. I plan to get into that project sometime in the future but, for now check out:

M.I.A Does Not Mean Missing In Action…Sort Of
by eccentric1 on Feb.18, 2009, under Eccentric
She definintely is not missing in action, but to me she sort of was,as I just got wind of her. I know it kind of shocked me when I found she has been out for a couple of years. Nonetheless, I heard the sample of the original track “Paper Planes” I think it was last year. However, when I saw the AWESOME movie Slumdog Millionaire, I thought, I gotta check this out in detail! I did and I fell in love with this track. Diplo, the person who produced it put his foot in this track! Eventhough it is a lil old, I gotta post this track for those late comers, like myself in this case. I believe that it is appropriate because so many have heard the sample, but maybe not have heard the song in its entirety and it should be given a thorough listen, so pick it up.

Jazz Smooth Hip-Hop Melodic:
by eccentric1 on Feb.18, 2009, under Eccentric
When I first heard this cat I did not originally think he would be out from Minneapolis! I guess I could not be too surprised as this is the place the producer Doc from Esthero is from. I guess I mislabled his origin because he is signed to UK DJ Great, Gilles Peterson’s label called Brownswood Recordings. Oh by the way, his name is Jose James. He is a cat who looks hip-hopish, but has a real smooth jazz voice. This cat is SICK!!!!!! Peep this joint with the illustrious Flying Lotus called “Visions In Violet”:

Oh My God: Röyksopp
by eccentric1 on Feb.17, 2009, under Eccentric
Do you really wanna hear some dope electronica with a down-tempo, more like trip-hop, but really smoothed out sound? If you are not up on this group then check these cats out!
You have heard of them, but maybe not in this manner. They are the group who perform the background music for the geico cavemen commercials, more specifically when the cavemen are in the airport. That track is called “Remind Me”. Anyway, they reign from Bergen, Norway and are melting the ice caps out there!!!!!
Don’t take my word for it, check this track out called “So Easy” (I will be posting a lot more of their music up, so don’t fret, but in the meantime, let me know what you think of this track):
Another gem called “Sparks”
4Hero My Hero
by eccentric1 on Feb.05, 2009, under Eccentric
4Hero….one of my all time favorite groups just continues to reinvent themselves time and time again.
A group hailing from the London area in the UK have been on the scene since ‘89 & are doing it HUGE in the drum n bass and broken beat arena!!!
For those who are unaware of 4Hero, they exist through different monikers. I don’t claim to know them all, but a few are: Visioneers and 2000 Black….REAL DOPE STUFF!!!!! SUPA DOPE!!!!
Their sound is more a melodic drum n bass….not the really repetitive sound of like Techno or whatever.
Check out this jawn called “Morning Child” from the Play With The Changes CD
